My Thoughts on 2024 Music Just In My Honest Opinion

Introduction

Okay I am going to make a mock up of what the 2024 article will look like. First things first what are the categories. well these are the ones I came up with first:

  • Album [done]
  • Single
  • EP
  • Deluxe
  • Collaborative Album
  • Group Album
  • StoryTelling [done]
  • Vocal Performance [done]
  • Acoustic
  • Digital
  • Acoustic and Digital Mix
  • Songwriting and Lyrics
  • Mixing and Mastering
  • Debut Albums
  • Instrumentals
  • Personal Picks

I really don't like the way that music has been put into genres on a large scale every project, has been filed like an item in a walmart into it's collection of genres. I especially don't like it when it relates to giving awards. It kinda feel like how there are 20+ swimming events (source: I made it up) while only few for other categories, it really feels like the music industry try to reward certain genres which, I think has an overall negative effect on music as a whole. I think there are great artist who I can't properly place nor should I try to place within a genre. The best approach IMO is to instead look at elements that are common to music instead. these include the production, and elements of songs like storytelling or songwriting, which are universal to most genres instead of just whatever pop albums there are. Anyways lets see what I have to say.

Also NOT done at ALL. However if I don't start now I'll never finish. I'll update whenever I come back here.

Best Albums IMO

  • Charli XCX - BRAT
  • G(I)-DLE - 2
  • JPEGMAFIA - I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU
  • Saya Gray - QWERTY II

WIP What else where you expecting, there are a ton of reaons why I think BRAT IMO is the best album of 2024, beside the international impact and the summer 'movement' it starts; the album is just a great masterpice of club music. everything from great songwriting, insane production and mastering. G(I)-DLE's new album 2 aptly named is their second LP and it lived up to the expectations if you're a fan of KPOP I don't even have to tell you, you probably already know. JPEGMAFIA's LP is his best solo work probably since All My Heros Are Cornballs, Offline and LP! are still great project but it really seems like he mastered this different style with incredible instrumentals throughout the project and the guitar is just awsome idk what else I can say. Saya Gray, is likely becoming my favorite artist, I find all her music to be very refreshing, and QWERTY II is another step up from her previous work.

Best Storytelling Albums

  • Jazmin Bean - Traumatic Livelihood
  • Rachel Chinouriri - What a Devastating Turn of Events
  • Maria Beraldo - Colinho
  • Sio - Sarang/사랑
  • Seafood Sam - Standing on Giant Shoulders
  • Lola Young - This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway
  • Raveena - Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain

So many choices to put up there. But I think in the end Rachel Chinouriri's album would win nonetheless. I can't really think nontheless type out words like I'm so critric, just go listen to it. I feel like her work is severly underrated, or maybe not who knows what I know. [WIP].

Best Vocal Performance

  • Pomme - Saisons
  • Billie Eilish - HIT ME HARD AND SOFT
  • AURORA - What Happened To The Heart
  • Beyonce - Cowboy Carter
  • Buddy - Don't Forget To Breathe
  • Childish Gambino - Atavista
  • SiR - HEAVY

While I think we can argue about this probably more then any other choices I made, I still stand by my decision. However I feels like pomme and AURORA are a must have when you think about artist who have amazing ablitiies to sing. And as much as I think Beyonce's new album is overrated I can't deny that she can sing.
